Bombing a pro Assad school in Homs, air raids, and clashes

Tow bombs went off targeting ‘Akrama al-Makhzumi Elementary school in a pro Assad, mostly Alawite, neighborhood in Homs killing tens of people including many school children. Air raids by al-Assad continued on targets in Dar’a, al-Qunaytara, Reef Hama, and many more. Also, al-Assad forces were able to take the village of al-Masasneh (المصاصنة) which is south-west of the town of Mork (مورك) in the northern countryside of the city of Hama. The battles in that area are still raging.  The raids against the Islamic State and al-Nusra are still going on.  The effect of these raids is debated, although it is very early to see what are the real results.  The Islamic State’s soldiers are shown in a video overlooking Ayn al-Arab/Kobani.  This is meant to show that the air raids are not affecting the advances of the Islamic State.  Turkey is amassing forces on its side of the border near that area.  al-Nusra is getting hit in this American led air campaign also, especially around Idlib and Aleppo.  Manbej was hit also.  The Dollar is 190 in Latakia, and 193 in al-Raqqa under the Islamic State.

Syria: more raids and uncertainty

The raids on the Islamic State continued.  Oil refineries, a plastic factory and other target were hit around al-Raqqa and Deir al-Zur.  The battles near Ayn al-Arab/Kobani continued with the Islamic State shelling the city itself.   Abu Muhammad al-Julani, the leader of al-Nusra, issued a statement threatening everyone who attacked them.  He also blamed the Islamic State for bringing this coalition into the fry.  The other parts of Syria are the same with clashes unabated in most of the well known hot spots.

Air raids continue while IS adjusts

Air raids continued against the Islamic State.  Targets were oil facilities near al-Raqqa and al-Tabni Salt mine, which provided more than %65 of Syria’s Salt demand in the past.    The Islamic State continued its assault on Ayn al-Arab/Kobani, unaffected by the American occasional air raids against its positions in that area.  The Americans released videos of some of these raids.  In other contested areas, the Islamic State was able to annex few villages to be under its control, while al-Nusra, through its spokesperson Abu Firas al-Suri, threatened the Arab countries participating in its bombardment.  In al-Qunaytra, in the Golan Heights, clashes continued, where anti Assad forces, with large Nusra presence, are able to hold large areas, some of which put them in control of the Syrian side of the Syrian/Israeli lines.  In other parts of Syria, it is war as usual.  In Dar’a, air raids by al-Assad.  The other fronts are hot but there are no major breakthroughs by anyone.

Syrian oil fields under attack

The Americans and their “allies” attacked oil fields under the control of the Islamic State in Syria.  The oil field attacked are around Deir al-Zur and al-Raqqa.  As of today, the Islamic State controls the Tanak and al-Umar/Omr important oil fields in Deir al-Zur, plus few smaller ones close to al-Raqqa.  Syria’s other sizable oil field, al-Rumaylan, is under the control of Kurdish forces.  In other areas, al-Assad’s forces entered the city of ‘Adra close to Damascus.  Clashes are still happening in that area, as well as parts of the nearby al-Qalamun.  The countryside of Hama is still blazing, with no significant battles since the fizzling of the last attack on Mharda.  The south is still witnessing clashes between al-Assad and his foes.  The northern countryside of Latakia also witnessed clashes too.  al-Nusra and other groups, with the same Islamic bend, are re-organizing themselves and going more underground.

Syria today is uncertain of tomorrow

Syria is still adjusting to the American bombs and rockets.  Syrians are busy talking about who is slated to benefit from this attack on the Islamic State.  No clear foe on the ground had materialized to confront the Islamic State, since the attack had happened.  al-Assad continued with his attack on ‘Adra.  al-Jabha al-Islamiyah had called for al-Nafeer al-‘Am (General Mobilization) in the Eastern Ghutta.  Sporadic fights are all over Syria, but, there is was no major military battles.  It seems everyone need few days to adjust to the American attack on the Islamic State.

After the bombs were dropped

Today the news coming out of Syria are mostly connected to the raids done by the Americans and their “allies,” on the 22nd of September, 2014.  The Dollar rates vs the Syrian Pound/Lira is still showing effects related to fears of the scope of the American attacks.  So the Dollar continue to go up.  The American attacks made all of the hard line Islamist groups worry, for example, Ahrar al-Sham issued instructions expecting hits on its locations, arms, and men.  The Islamic State is reorganizing its existence as well.

Syria today is a mess

With the latest tide of violence, Syria today continue to be a mess.  In the South, the battles are continuing, with Israel shooting a pro Assad fighter jet.  In al-Qalamun, there are few battles here and there.  The same could be told about al-Ghuta al-Sharqiyah.  As for ‘Adra: the battles just started.   Near Hama and Idlib there are battles raging.  Mork, Kafr Zita front is still the same.  North of Lattakia, things are escalating.  Battles in Jabal al-Akrad did not simmer down.  The battles between al-Nusra and Jabhat Thuwar Suria is spotty, but is happening.  al-Nusra is said to have been bombed by the American and Co.s attack last night.  Alleppo is still an active front, as well as its north.  in Manbaj, IS just cut few heads, one for a man that had cursed at Allah.  al-Raqqa was showered yesterday with Tomahawk Cruise Missiles, plus bombs and rockets from American and Co’s planes.  al-Bukamal got its share of this bombardment, IS (formerly ISIS) had lots of casualties.
